Gearing Up for Next Football Season
After the Rebel’s spring football game last weekend, the equipment managers are gearing up for the fall football season. Cary Joe Davis, a freshman equipment manager, is ready to get back on the field again after last weekend’s game.
Davis decided to become an equipment manager after hearing stories from his dad, Mark Davis, about how interesting it was. “I wanted to stay around football being that I knew I wouldn’t play it in college like I did in high school.” His job requires him to help the coaches with setting up drill, making sure they have everything that they need, and setting up the proper equipment before practices. “I had the spring practices and my experiences from the last season to help me with the game on Saturday.”
With practices continuing until the end of this semester, Davis has been constantly busy every weekday afternoon. He has managed to successfully balance time at football practices and time for his school work. “The second semester is not as hard, but the first semester is during the season. It’s because you are there from about 1:00pm to about 7:00pm.”
When asked how the Rebels are going to look for next season, Davis said, “That’s a tough one. I think we’ll be good, but you never know. The expectations are low for us this season, but whenever we’re expected to be bad we end up being good.”
